Music in the CLOUD

This press release came from the Norwegian 2L record company just a few days ago:
"We have reached a point where iTunes and MP3 has replaced the Compact Disc. We sincerely doubt any record labels will manufacture any traditional silver discs in 2011. Download turn into streaming and very soon the providers will turn up the bitrate to match the quality we are used to from CD. Combine streaming subscription with the capability to make offline local storage of the music and the future is here." 2L is a small but very distinguished Norwegian record company that is know for its experimental recording techniques and high quality recordings, so I think we need to take their vision of the near future seriously.
Then they go on asking have we ever experienced the true sonic values that they work with on recording sessions? They now provide music listeners high resolution audio files by means of their DXD recordings. Digital eXtreme Definition means not only FLAC 24bit/96kHz or even FLAC 24bit/192kHz but "analogue" quality files with 24 bits at 352.8 kHz sampling rate. Selected music servers has already implemented converters that makes it possible to play back the 24bit/352.8kHz WAV but it's still an expert-level exercise. At individual requests 2L makes copies from their master archive to USB hard drives. These are considered exclusive deliveries at individual requests to: lyd@lindberg.no
And by February 2011 a new European portal will feature our full range of high resolution audio, so stay tuned for www.highresaudio.com
