Some Treasures from the National Library of Finland

With a scope of approximately 150,000 recordings, the Finnish National Sound Archive together with the Music Library is Finland's most extensive public recording archive; beginning in 1901, it contains a substantial quantity of almost all the recordings issued in Finland. Below are some samples of the playback equipment belonging to the Sound Archive. The National Library of Finland has bought the objects from a private collector 12 years ago. The total number of objects in the collection is around 50. The shown objects are on display at the Music Library. All images by Kari Timonen.

New York based Audiophone Company produced this Concert Roller Organ chamber barrel organ with a changeable roller in 1904. Each roller has one music piece. An English Triumph suitcase gramophone with an electronic pickup from the 1930s. 1930-luvulta sähköisellä äänirasialla varustettu englantilainen Triumph-matkalaukkugramofoni.
